Scott loves to explore his neighborhood. He doesn’t go too far, just far enough to discover something new. Every other day, Dial-a-Ride picks him up and drives him to work. On his free days he relies on YCAP’s transit system to help him expand his explorations.
Traveling alone or with a friend, Scott can get to Coyote Joe’s in Willamina for breakfast and visit Grande Ronde, Hillsboro or Salem. It was YCAP who took Scott to his class reunion in Salem…at the School for the Blind. Scott credits YCAP’s transit services with helping him “see” the countryside.
Important steps to self-sufficiency can hinge on transportation. Whether it’s a job interview, shopping for groceries or a doctor’s appointment – getting there is important. We provide 80% of Yamhill County’s public transit service through a contract with Yamhill County Transit Area. There is bus service in McMinnville, to local Yamhill County cities and to connector cities outside the area, like Salem and Hillsboro. Dial-a-ride provides passengers with curb-to-curb service. Free medical transportation to Portland hospitals and doctors is available via our Volunteer Medical Transportation (VMT) program in cooperation with the VA.
Transit Services include:
- Dial-a-Ride
- Medical Transportations
- Bus Service in McMinnville, between Yamhill County cities, and to Salem and Hillsboro (Max Station)
- Connection to Newberg and Sherwood
Use of the transit system continues to climb. Between January and June of 2010 the average number of monthly rides was 21,000. This is an 17% increase from 2009 and an 29% increase from 2008. A new ridership record was set in June 2010 with more than 25,000 rides provided to transit users!
