Food Drives

How to Organize a Food Drive:
Food drives are one of our main sources of food every year for Yamhill County. They are a great way for the local community to join our mission in alleviating hunger for our friends and neighbors. For more information on food drives, please contact Diane Longaker at (503) 687-1474, or email

Steps to a Successful Food Drive

Pick a Theme: Get participants fired up with an inspiring or heartfelt theme such as:

  • Helping Hands Day
  • Dare to Care
  • Together We ‘Can’ Make a Difference
  • Create a Visible goal; like a thermometer or chart of your goal
  • Make it a competition
  • Create donation incentives…this makes it extra fun to give and really works!

Set a Date: Pick beginning and ending dates for your drive

  • Anywhere from a weekend to as many days as you like
  • Until you reach your goal

Organize Collection Receptacles: Collect boxes to put the food in or contact Diane Longaker (503-687-1474 or email to coordinate a delivery of barrel(s) or smaller buckets.

Collect the Food:

  • Non-perishable
  • Factory packaged items only please
  • Click here for Items Most Needed poster
  • No glass containers please.  (They might break during collection/sorting.) Thanks!

Plan for Food Delivery to the Food Bank: You can either bring it in to our warehouse or coordinate a pickup

  • Our Warehouse is located at YCAP 1317 NE Dustin Court in McMinnville off of NE Riverside Drive. By bringing the food to the warehouse you save us $ and your donations go even further.
  • OR contact Diane Longaker at (503) 687-1474 and arrange for your food drive to be picked up.

The food you collect will be weighed and reported back to you in pounds. Every item of food really goes a long way in the lives of those in need. Thank you so much for you interest in your local community.
