FOOD RECOVERY – FRESH ALLIANCE
We are part of a community partnership with local grocery stores to reclaim high quality product. We make daily pick-ups from Roth’s Family Market, Fred Meyer and Albertsons. This program provides highly nutritious, as well as diverse food to our community members in need. Through the generous support of these local community stores we received 39,000 pounds of food during the first quarter of 2010. FRIDAY FAMILY FOOD
Through this program we are able to provide two weekend meals to children and their families who qualify for free or reduced meals at three elementary schools in Yamhill County. Participating schools include Edwards Elementary School in Newberg; Wascher Elementary School in Lafayette; and Willamina Elementary School in Willamina. Currently 160 families, or 772 individuals are being served weekly. This is a predominantly volunteer run program. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Laura at laurak@yamhillcap.org or (503) 687-1471.
WILLAMINA COMMUNITY GARDEN
A one-half acre community based learning garden is being developed in Willamina. Students and community households will have the opportunity to learn how to grow and prepare their own produce. The produce grown in the garden will be utilized by the school kitchen and families volunteering in the garden. The school also has complete access to the farm for academic programming such as science, agriculture, math and other learning programs. If you are interested in learning more, please contact Laura at laurak@yamhillcap.org or (503) 687-1471.
